KFCB – FPB EXCHANGE PROGRAMME TO HOLD DISCUSSIONS WITH MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS- SOUTH AFRICA

The Kenya Film Classification Board’s exchange programme with the Film and Publications Board has entered the second day today, with a series of activities lined up for the day.As part of today’s programme, KFCB is meeting with the Minister of Communications of South Africa to discuss issues on content regulation and safety of children while using ICTs and exploring ways of addressing emergent challenges.

In the course of the tour, the Board is also slated to hold discussions with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), SA Communications Forum, UNISA, MultiChoice, Child Welfare, Google, Unesco, UNICEF, Portfolio Committee, the Press Council of SA, among other key institutions.

The team is also expected to attend a film festival in Durban.

KFCB is in the process of reviewing the Film and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya to accomodate emergent challenges, which include new technologies and media convergence.The Board is optimistic that the tour will enrich its regulatory processes and improve the efficiency in restoring the nation’s moral values through effective film and broadcast content regulation.
