The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, was the Chief Guest at the 2nd Youth Internet Governance Forum 2018 hosted by Watoto Watch Network at Strathmore University.
Speaking during the forum themed “Ensuring Youth Participation in Internet Policy Matters”, Dr. Mutua cautioned the youths that while internet is a great tool for acquisition of information, knowledge, and entertainment, it’s a double-edged sword that can be a curse or a blessing.
“Many youths have used technology to advance themselves and connect with friends. Many have used technology to create employment and brand themselves. On the other hand, youths have been destroyed by technology, ruining their reputations and future through online addiction to inappropriate behaviour,” said Dr. Mutua.
The Forum was attended by the Watoto Watch Network Executive Director Lilian Kariuki, Dean Strathmore School of Law Dr. Luis Franceschi, Safaricom Public Policy Senior Manager Karimi Ruria, representatives from the Communication Authority of Kenya, Internet Society, and KICTANet.
KFCB will continue to partner with organizations in empowering the youths by promoting online child safety and cyber security.
