Kenya Film Classification Board, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, presided over the inaugural Mister and Miss Deaf Kenya Beauty Pageant 2019 held at the Nairobi Film Center (NFC) on May 30th 2019.
The fete to honor models with hearing impairment was organized by the Deaf Artists Culture Association of Kenya (DECAK) in partnership with KFCB and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, Dr. Mutua expressed his commitment to support talents among people with special needs.
He noted that film is a critical platform that can be used to highlight the plight of Persons With Disabilities (PLWDs) as well as empower them through their talents.
“The deaf people need opportunities not sympathy, KFCB will partner with DACAK to provide opportunities to the deaf community for them to explore their talents in film and Creative Arts,” Dr Mutua said.
The aim of the Deaf Beauty Pageant is to create public awareness about HIV/Aids, Drug Abuse, and poverty as well as highlight the plight of persons with hearing impairment.
Winners of the inaugural Mister and Miss Deaf Beauty Pageant Kenya 2019 will compete at the International Deaf Beauty Pageant in Russia.
